GEMS® FAQWhat can I expect at a typical morning gathering?
Upon arriving, you will enter a room with beautiful tables and pampering gifts for all moms. There will be a time of fellowship allowing mothers to arrive and get their child(ren) settled into our childcare program. We will then begin with a welcome and a prayer followed by time for breakfast and fellowship with other moms. Our guest speaker will then share for approximately 45-60 minutes. We will conclude with time for questions and visiting with other moms I'm struggling in an area of parenting. Is there someone who can answer specific questions for me?
At GEMS mentoring is an important part of our ministry. We have mothers with kids of all ages who are happy to discuss parenting questions with you and offer encouragement and advice. We have a welcome desk staffed by knowledgeable volunteers who can point you to someone who will be happy to discuss parenting questions with you. You are also welcome to contact us via email with any questions you might have. I'm a grandparent but caring for my grandkids on a regular basis. Can I still attend GEMS?
Yes. Absolutely. Whether you are caring for your grandchildren on a daily basis or just see them a few times a year you are welcome to attend. We have grandparents who attend on a regular basis who would love to connect with you and encourage you on your journey. I attend a different church or parish. Can I still attend GEMS?
Yes. We have many different churches that are represented at GEMS. All are welcome! I'm a homeschooling Mom with older kids. Is there childcare available for them?
Yes. We have two options for older children. At GEMS we love teaching our children about serving and one way we do that is by having the older children help care for the younger children in our Nuggets childcare program. However, we do recognize that GEMS falls during the school day and so we also offer a supervised study hall for older children who may need to work on school work I'd like to contribute something for breakfast. Who should I contact?
No need to contact anyone. If you are able we would love to have you bring fresh fruit, yogurt, muffins, breakfast casseroles or any other type of breakfast food you’d like to share. Is GEMS part of a larger ministry?
Yes. The organization Growing Families International is the larger ministry. Parenting classes are offered for all age groups. These classes are as follows:
If you are interested in any of the above classes please contact Kathy Loewen at GEMSNaperville@comcast.net I have a newborn I'm not comfortable putting in childcare yet. Can he/she stay with me during the gathering?
Yes, your infant can stay with you during the gathering. We just ask that you consider the preciousness of those around you and move to the back of the room to comfort your infant if they are disruptive. Do the childcare workers have background checks or any specific training?
Yes. Each of our childcare workers is required to have a background check and attend a safe training class through Trinity Church of the Nazarene. I'm a single Mom. Can I still attend GEMS?
Yes. Single moms are welcome and encouraged to attend GEMS. We all need a community to help us through this journey of parenting. I have a friend who decided to come at the last minute and didn't register. Can she still attend?
Yes. Walk-ins are always welcome but will be charged $7. Unfortunately we cannot accept walk-ins for childcare. |
